Of lasers and lunges…

Back in the late 50’s, two guys at Bell Labs (the coolest things seem to come from there) set into motion a chain of events that eventually brought about the invention of the Laser. Since then, people have seen lasers employed in different ways, from movies, to games, to business presentations, and now, to pet entertainment.

I first noticed that cats liked lasers when I was visiting my friend Ryan up in Fort Wayne.  His cat chased a laser all over the house, down halls and up walls – it was a sight to behold. And as I was shopping for toys for Amenti, I remembered this and immediately purchased a laser pointer sold as a cat toy.

She absolutely loves it. As soon as the spot shows up, she locks onto it, watches it for a bit, winds up to lunge, and pounces on it.  She chases it all over the place, until it finally dissappears. I suppose at least she’s getting her excercise. We still play with her regular toys as well.  I don’t want her to get frustrated trying to figure out why she can’t catch the little red dot.  Usually, she can run almost as fast as I can move the dot.

Amenti really is quite fun to play with, and after it’s all over, she’ll hop up on the bed, or walk around on the floor purring and rubbing against anything she can find, including Lisa and I.  So far, she’s a lovely cat, and a lot of fun.

First week…

So far Amenti is exploring the apartment. She has made it all the way through the apartment except for in the spare bedroom because of the amount of hiding spaces that are in the spare bedroom we keep it blocked off.  She is quite the explorer cat. Maybe we should change her name to Dora…
